چکیده

A parasitological survey was made on Shikoku Island, fourth largest of the Japanese archipelago, during April 1949. The island is divided into four prefectural areas (Kagawa, Tokushima, Kochi and Ehime) in all of which investigations were made. In contrast to certain of our other surveys the island, rather than the prefecture, was considered the geographical survey unit. Four communities were surveyed in each of the four prefectures. In addition to the primary objective of determining the incidence and parasite density of intestinal helminths and protozoa, specific information was sought regarding the endemicity of schistosomiasis, paragonimiasis, metagonimiasis, heterophyiasis, malaria and filariasis.

Cation Exchange Between Piemontite and Garnet in Piemontite-Quartz Schists from Asemi-Gawa Area of Central Shikoku, Sanbagawa Metamorphic Belt, Japan

In the Asemi-gawa area of intermediate high-pressure and low-temperature Sanbagawa metamorphic belt in central Shikoku, Japan, piemontite-quartz schists are common in which cation exchange between piemontite and garnet has been studied. Piemontite in contact with garnet usually contains two zones in which core is enriched in Mn3+ and surrounded by a rim rich in Fe3+. Garnet is Ca-Fe-bearing spe...

Analysis of Genetic Variation and Phylogeny of the Predatory Bug, Pilophorus typicus, in Japan using Mitochondrial Gene Sequences

Pilophorus typicus (Distant) (Heteroptera: Miridae) is a predatory bug occurring in East, Southeast, and South Asia. Because the active stages of P. typicus prey on various agricultural pest insects and mites, this species is a candidate insect as an indigenous natural enemy for use in biological control programs. However, the mass releasing of introduced natural enemies into agricultural field...

Description of a New Salamander of the Genus Onychodactylus from Shikoku and Western Honshu, Japan (Amphibia, Caudata, Hynobiidae).

Recent phylogenetic studies using mtDNA and allozymes clarified the presence of multiple distinct genetic lineages in the Japanese clawed salamander, Onychodactylus japonicus, of which two from northern regions of the country have already been described as new species. Based on morphological analyses of the remaining genetic lineages, we describe the lineage from Shikoku Island and Chugoku Moun...

Predictive ability of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography for pathological complete response and prognosis after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in triple-negative breast cancer patients

Objective The mortality of patients with locally advanced triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is high, and pathological complete response (pCR) to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is associated with improved prognosis. This retrospective study was designed and powered to investigate the ability of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) to predict pat...
